ARE CATS THERAPEUTIC?

Many people think cats are standoffish creatures that merely tolerate humans. This may be true for some particular cats, however cats absolutely do bond with people, studies say, even if they don't always show it. Some cats may seem a little more aloof than dogs, but they respond to the people they've bonded with in a similar way, according to a new study.

Because of a cat's ability to calm us, lower our stress levels, and offer companionship, they are great therapy animals for a wide variety of uses and patients. While a cat isn't a substitution for medication or therapy, there's no denying the subtle positive effect on mental health.

According to peer reviewed studies connecting with cats has health benefits. Connecting with cats can help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and strokes. Depression, anxiety and loneliness can be aided by the comfort of a cat. Immune function, reduced blood pressure and stress are also benefits seen by connecting with cats. Purrfect Pause aims to be a safe haven for not just our cats, but we aim to be a positive community space for any and all cat lovers.
